Even with the biter spawn density and frequency turned way up they don't represent much of a challenge . If you play with strong enemies close by early on you need to avoid the trap of throwing all your resources into ammo production for defense. Instead limit pollution .Take a handful of gun turrets with you and a few stacks of ammo. Place your first turret or two out of range of the spawners (the biters will notice the turret from farther away than they notice you, and you want to have at least one set up before they come for you). The fact that they stack damage makes poison capsules very strong. Just spam them on biter nests and kill everything. Or you can wall off all your territory and defend that perimeter. Or you have your outpost power localized. Have a train deliver Steam to power a steam engine on site. While resource heavy, using walls to form a slowing point for biters triples the efficacy of turrets. Leave a space between each wall in each direction, with 2/3 rows. Each row is one block over so a gap has a wall in front of it. Its a really effective early-ish-mid game strategy :) Good luck! Reply reply. Raknarg. 2. What tools can the player be given to face stronger biters, without making the game a tedious chore. I know some players have suggested that the biters AI is now too strong, and they are too savvy. I disagree, but I think compromise is possible. Here are some suggestions I've considered, and let me know which is the one you prefer: A. Do .It's definitely possible and happens! Deathworld and harder settings can for sure have a higher chance of failing. On normal settings, usually it's because people expand too big too fast, without investing enough into military tech and defences. You can reach a point where biters are too strong (around 0.6 evo usually) and overwhelm your turrets.
To get rid of biters, you need to destroy their nests first, then kill the remaining biters. Since the respawn time is so fast, it's not a viable tactics to first kill biters to thin them out, then go for the nest. Instead, you need to not kill them but instead distract them to have them far from the nest battle.Enemies SE default is designed to be so that you will be well into space then biters hit 0.9 evolution (behemoth). this gives you upwards of 100-150h of time before that happens. Basically look at SE-default biter evolution vs lets say vanilla or deathworld. If you are familiar with deathworld, some form of deathworld setting will be for you, not SE . In factorio the biters don't bring food back to their nest, so an important component of scouting and long-range rallying would be missing with this system. But if biters were allowed to double-back, then they would be laying strong trails to encourage biters at the nest to follow their route to an important place. That's how ant scouts work.Build battery of turrets near the targeted nest (not in aggro range!!!) Bite biters from nest and let turrets do their work. If it is early game then just build new battery of turrets in range of previous battery. When the nest is close enough you can just go into nest and place turrets in random places.Step 1- limit pollution by turning off research. Step 2- Begin the genocide. How to genocide. 1- kill all biter spawners nearby. 2- build a wall and turret boundary around you're base, making sure to leave space for expansion (just feed them by hand for now, or of you're base is too large, mildly automate it.) Re: How to deal with all these biters? by Serenity » Thu Oct 08, 2020 5:24 pm. Use flamethrower turrets. 2 or 3 layers of walls is generally enough with flamethrowers and laser turrets behind them. Gun turrets with uranium ammo are also very good and do more damage than lasers, but are more difficult to supply.
However it is one of Factorio's great strengths that it has more than enough depth to be extremely interesting, and challenging, even if you disable biters completely, and never play with them. So you should play however you feel best suits you. It will be an amazing game experience however you approach it. Well said.
